Used a Custom DNS That Makes YouTube Videos Load Faster
I stopped using the default DNS provided by my ISP and switched to a custom one. There are many DNS options available in the market, each built for different purposes and use cases, and I found one that noticeably improves webpage and YouTube video loading speed.
Most ISPs use default DNS servers, which are often slow or overloaded. I didn’t realize that every time I opened YouTube, my phone first had to ask the DNS server where youtube.com is located.
The DNS I Used
I used Cloudflare’s DNS, which is 1.1.1.1 OR 1.0.0.1, but these IP addresses can’t be used directly on an Android phone. Instead, using Android’s Private DNS feature, you must enter the hostname one.one.one.one instead of the IP address. This enables encrypted DNS over TLS, which is more secure and reliable.
Switching to Private DNS on a smartphone takes less than 30 seconds. For this, go to Settings > Network & Internet > Private DNS, paste the custom private DNS hostname one.one.one.one, and hit Enter.
After this, wait a few seconds for the internet to reconnect. Once the connection is active, you can notice that websites and YouTube videos load faster than before.
