Huawei MatePad Mini Teased for September 4 Launch with Lightweight Design & Gaming Boost

Huawei MatePad Mini is setting the perfect time to launch. Meanwhile, the company has released its official teaser, breaking the internet. The new MatePad Mini launch is scheduled on 4th September 2025.

In the teaser and official posts, they claimed enhanced gaming performance and introduced the new Mate XTs Ultimate Design. This looks like a big smartphone, which is capable of doing multitasking and is also easy to carry in the hand.

The company is narrowing the gap between smartphones and tablets, as Huawei’s recent phone looks more like a mini tablet, while the new MatePad Mini resembles a large smartphone.

Design And Build

In terms of design, the Huawei MatePad Mini features a circular camera island on the top-left corner of the rear panel, similar to what you see on a smartphone. The center of the rear side has Huawei branding, followed by a clean, minimalist design with no extra elements.

On the right side from the front view, aligned with the rear camera, there is a button element. Just above it, on the top edge, there’s another button. The left edge also features some additional button elements.

Display

The Huawei MatePad Mini features an 8.8-inch 16:9 display with a 120 Hz refresh rate. Impressively, it maintains a lightweight design at just 260 grams and a slim 5 mm thick body. The display is a multi-touch capacitive screen, designed to enhance the gaming experience. It also aims to deliver a premium feel during multitasking and movie watching.

Performance

For the multitasking and improved gaming experience, the Huawei MatePad Mini houses the Kirin 9020 processor. Here are the quick details of the Kirin 9020 Chip—

  • CPU Cores: 8 (1x 2.5 GHz TaiShan V121, 3x 2.15 GHz TaiShan V120, 4x 1.6 GHz Taishan-Little)
  • GPU: Maleoon 920
  • Manufacturing Process: 7 nm (by SMIC)
  • Total Shaders: 1024
  • Neural Processor: Da Vinci NPU
  • Memory Type: LPDDR5X
  • Memory Frequency: 4266 MHz
  • Bus: 4x 16-bit
  • 5G Support: Yes (Balong 6000 modem)

The key details of the Kirin 9020 Chipset express that this phone can dominate the mini-tablet category. With the huge battery capacity, it can be long-lasting.

Battery And Charging

In terms of battery and charging, the MatePad Mini houses a 6,500mAh battery that supports 65W fast charging. While this battery capacity is average for a tablet, it’s worth noting that some recent smartphones have comparable or even larger batteries—for example, the recently announced Realme 15T phone has a 15000 mAh battery, and the China-launched Oppo A6 Max supports a 7000 mAh battery.

Given this, the MatePad Mini’s battery could be improved to offer better performance.

Final Thoughts

The Huawei MatePad Mini feels like a large smartphone that fits comfortably in your hand and is easy to carry while traveling, gaming, or multitasking. However, it has not yet been confirmed whether it will launch in the global market.

One thing I disagree with is the battery—it could definitely be better. The 6,500 mAh battery in the MatePad Mini isn’t quite enough, especially considering gaming is a main focus.
