Equal AI: India’s First Call Assistant Launching on 2nd October, Challenging Apple, Google & Truecaller

A Hyderabad-based AI startup, Equal AI, is set to launch in India on 2nd October 2025 and aims to rival Apple, Google, and Truecaller’s AI services. The AI service is app-based and recently entered the public domain as a beta version.

It is now preparing for a stable launch in early October. With big players like Google, Apple AI, and Truecaller already commanding millions of users in India, Equal AI faces the challenge of entering a competitive market and positioning itself as a direct rival to these established giants.

Talking about what’s new in Equal AI, it stands out from its rivals. It doesn’t just display the caller ID; it also visualizes the caller’s purpose. In some cases, it can even guide a delivery person to leave a product at the intended location.

Indian users face a flood of spam and promotional calls. To tackle this, Airtel India launched a feature that Fraud Detection and blocks spam calls, but it doesn’t help with identifying caller IDs or providing AI assistance. The new Equal AI addresses these issues, offering users a spam-free experience combined with smart AI-powered features.

Features

  • It will answer, filter, and block spam calls by detecting promotions, scams, or fraud using AI-powered features.
  • The service works in India’s popular languages, including Hindi and Hinglish.
  • During beta testing, it achieved 94% accuracy in spam detection—a crucial milestone for building user trust.
  • At the initial stage, it will start with approximately 10,000 users in the Delhi NCR region.

Keshav Reddy, the founder of Equal AI, is dedicated to supporting young professionals and students in India who often balance work, office commitments, or classes. The app helps them identify important calls, schedule callbacks when needed, and even generate AI-assisted responses for callers.

The founder aims to achieve over 1 million daily active users in India by the end of 2026, despite facing competition from major tech giants, including Truecaller. Truecaller is also pursuing a similar strategy, but concerns over user privacy have caused the app to lose thousands of loyal users.

In India, for those primarily looking to block spam calls, Airtel offers a feature to handle this. For users seeking a service similar to Truecaller that not only identifies caller IDs but also provides extended features like assisting callers, the new Equal AI app presents a compelling option.

Regarding availability, the app will be on the Google Play Store for Android users, while Apple users can access it on the App Store.
